Directions to A The Pocket@ area at Pigeon Mountain:

Get to LaFayette. Directions given below* to Pigeon Mountain are from LaFayette.

To get to LaFayette from Dalton: Go (north)west on Hwy. 76 (this is the A north bypass@ ) for a mile or two (from the I-75 interstate). Before reaching Tunnel Hill, turn south on Hwy. 201 to Villanow (the junction with Hwy. 136). Go west on Hwy 136 to LaFayette (this requires a couple of turns at other junctions, but simply follow the Hwy 136 signs into LaFayette).

To get to LaFayette from points north of Dalton: Go south on I-75 to Exit 336 (the exit for Hwy 76) and follow the directions above.

To get to LaFayette from Calhoun or points south: Take I-75 to exit 320 (the Resaca/ Hwy. 136 exit) and go west on 136 to LaFayette. This will require some turns at some intersections, but simply be sure to follow the Hwy. 136 (west) signs.

Alternatively, you can take state Hwy. 27 up or down into LaFayette, if you live over that way.

*Once in LaFayette, from Hwy 136 you will need to turn south a couple of blocks to Hwy 193. Turn west on Hwy 193 which will take you out of town to the west. Stay on Hwy 193 approximately 9 miles to Davis Crossroads (this is marked on most maps, but there really isn= t a sign [except on the gas station at the junction] telling you you have reached Davis Crossroads). At Davis Crossroads, there will be a sign indicating Hwy. 341 to the north (right). You want to turn LEFT (south) here onto Hog Jowl Road. Take this road for three miles until you reach Pocket Rd., which only goes off to the left. Turn left on Pocket Rd. Be careful when turning here B the junction is at the top of a rise, and you need to get to the top of the rise so you can see oncoming traffic BEFORE you turn. Follow Pocket Road to the end B you will go off of pavement onto gravel, but the gravel road is not a bad road. You will pass a sign on your left that says A Crockford - Pigeon Mountain Wildlife Management Area@ and at the end of the road you will turn left into a gravel parking lot. There are fields with flowers around the parking lot, and woods that you can walk into (with a stream) as well. There is also a trail that leads up the mountain to the east that you can walk up. This will take you through the woods to an upper field, as well as a pond around which you can collect some different insects.
